Good teaching doesn’t happen on its own, or come just to certain people, but it must be cultivated. It is also easy to become complacent and stick to a trusted routine. First and foremost, professional development to me means taking advantage of institutional resources and opportunities. I’ve already benefited greatly from a teaching center fellowship at Cornell. Through this experience I’ve begun to appreciate the value of a community of fellow teachers for support and growth.  Developing this community of like-minded teachers will be key for me wherever I find myself teaching.
